Autism Assessment
Autism Assessment Process
Step 1: Initial Call We start with a brief consultation call. This is a space to talk through what has brought you here, ask questions, and get a sense of whether an assessment feels like the right next step. Step 2: Initial Assessment We meet to begin getting to know you and your experiences in more depth. This includes understanding your current experiences and your history, including relationships, communication, sensory experiences, and day to day life. As part of this, we will also complete some screening measures to help guide the assessment. This is a conversation rather than a test, and we go at your pace. Step 3: Structured Autism Assessment The assessment includes several parts that help us build a full picture: a structured autism interview a developmental history, ideally with a parent or someone who knew you in childhood the ADOS-2, a structured assessment of communication and interaction, which is completed with a second clinician Each part gives us a different perspective, and none are used in isolation. Step 4: Feedback and Recommendations We then meet to talk through the outcome of the assessment. This is a space to understand the findings, ask questions, and think about what this means for you. We will also discuss recommendations and possible next steps. Some people receive a diagnosis and some do not. Both outcomes can still be helpful in building a clearer understanding of yourself and your experiences. A written report will follow, usually within 2 to 4 weeks where possible. Fees Total assessment fee: £1800

This is a space to talk through what has brought you here, ask questions, and get a sense of whether an assessment feels like the right next step. Step 2: Initial Assessment We meet to begin getting to know you and your experiences in more depth. This includes understanding your current experiences and your history, including attention, organisation, impulsivity, and day to day functioning. As part of this, we will also complete some screening measures to help guide the assessment. This is a conversation rather than a test, and we go at your pace. Step 3: Structured ADHD Assessment The assessment includes several parts that help us build a full picture: a structured ADHD interview using the DIVA-5 questionnaires completed by you and, where possible, someone who knows you well QBCheck, a computer-based task that provides an objective measure of attention, activity, and impulsivity Where possible, we include input from someone who knows you well, though we can adapt if this is not available. Each part gives us a different perspective, and none are used in isolation. Step 4: Bringing It All Together After the assessment, we carefully review all of the information. This includes your interviews, questionnaires, and QBCheck results. The aim is to build a thoughtful and balanced understanding, rather than relying on any single measure. Step 5: Feedback and Recommendations We meet to talk through the outcome of the assessment. This is a space to understand the findings, ask questions, and think about what this means for you. We will also discuss recommendations and possible next steps. Some people receive a diagnosis and some do not. Both outcomes can still be helpful in building a clearer understanding of your experiences. If a diagnosis is given, we can also discuss options such as medication through a partner prescriber. Frequently Asked Questions
Will my report being accepted in the NHS? This is a really important question to consider, and there are several points to mention. As clinical psychologists with specific training in autism and ADHD, our assessments follow NICE guidance which means that there should be no reason why your assessment isn't accepted. If you are coming for an ADHD assessment and you are considering medication as a treatment option, it is useful to ask whether your GP will accept a Shared Care Arrangement.
Can you prescribe ADHD medication? We have a link with a prescriber who will accept your report and will be able to take this on.
